INC's Prof Bimol yet to receive security

Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who is set to contest for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat in the upcoming 16th Lok Sabha election, as the candidate of National Congress (INC), is yet to be provided with security despite a complaint made to Director General of Police (DGP) and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur regarding the threats made to him by unknown people.
On March 28, at around 3pm, a group of unknown people came to the Dr Bimol's residence and told him to come to the Kombirei Garden the next day.
In this regard, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra wrote to DGP Rajiv Singh and CEO Manipur Pradeep Kumar Jha requesting to provide adequate security to the party candidate.
The letter detailed that on March 28, some unknown people came to Dr Bimol's residence.
As Dr Bimol was not at home at the time, the unknown people enquired the family of his whereabouts, and strictly "urged" Dr Bimol to come to the Kombirei Garden the next day by 9am.After an hour, around 5-6 unidentified people came at the residence again and "urged" for Dr Bimol to show up to the appointment without fail.
As such, the MPCC president requested for providing adequate security, particularly CRPF, to party candidate Dr Bimol at the earliest, considering the threat to his life and well-being.
He further said that if such incidents were to continue, the trust of the people for a free and fair election would be lost.
