Arms seized, UG cadres held

A combined team of State and Central security forces seized a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from different locations in the last five days and also arrested some cadres of banned outfits in separate incidents.
According to sources, security forces carried out extensive cordon and search operations at Wangoo, Borayangbi, Mangjing and Laingoubi areas on March .25 and recovered some arms, ammunition and explosives from Laingoubi area.
The recovered arms and ammunition included one .303 rifle, one carbine with an empty magazine, four hand grenades, one country made pistol, 10 bullet proof helmets, 19 pairs of shoes, three bullet proof jackets and two boxes of medical items and they have been handed over to Kumbi police station.
One March 26, a team of Bishnupur police arrested four cadres of Koireng-led UNLF along with arms and ammunition from an intervillage road near Mukta High School under Moirang police station, said the sources.
The arrested persons have been identified as Salam Rameshwor (48), s/o Yaima of Chandapur Mamang Leikai; Tongbram Gyanjit alias Chinglensana (39), s/o (L) Ibomcha of Chandapur Mamang Leikai; Pukhrem Ingocha Singh (40) s/o (L) P Ibomcha Singh of Moirang Khunou Hougrampat and Thokchom Temba alias Wakheiba (50), s/o (L) Th Tomba Meitei of Phougakchao Ikhai Makha Leikai Ward no..3From their possession, three SLR rifles along with four empty magazines, 20 live rounds of SLR ammunition, seven mobile phones, one walkie talkie set and two cars were seized and they have been handed over to Moirang police station, according to the sources.
Imphal East commandos arrested four active cadres of KCP (Noyon) along with arms and ammunition from different parts of Imphal West on March 27.Sources said the Imphal East commandos arrested an active cadre of KCP (Noyon) identified as Wahengbam Mathoi Singh (32), s/o (L) Thaba Singh of Wabagai Terapishak currently staying at Kiyamgei Santipur from Langthalbal Meitei Lamkhai near Lilong Bridge on March 27 while two other cadres of the same outfit namely Sorenshangbam Bungcha Singh alias Winner (47), s/o (L) S Nilo Singh of Naorem Leikai Liwa Road and Thongam Joynanda Singh alias Boycha (49), s/o Th Ibohanbi Singh of Khongnang Pheidekpi Aheibam Leikai were arrested along with one 9 mm pistol loaded with ten live rounds in the magazine, two hand grenades, three 7.62 mm live ammunition, one empty INSAS rifle magazine, one car (Kia Seltos) and two mobile phones from Kakwa Naorem Leikai in the follow up action.
Further, from their disclosure, one of their associates AK Sanjoy alias Herojit (34 years), s/o (L) AK Hitler Singh of Singjamei Makha Ningthoujam Leikai was arrested from Singjamei Thongam Leikai near Singjamei Thong.
Sources claimed that the arrested persons were involved in extorting money from the public and in transporting arms and ammunition.
The arrested persons have been handed over to Singjamei police station along with the seized items.
In the morning of the same day (March 27), Thoubal police and a column of 33 Assam Rifles conducted cordon and search operation at Gwarok Hill under Yairipok police station and recovered arms and ammunition which included one INSAS LMG rifle along with magazine and nine live rounds, one 9 mm semi machine gun carbine along with a magazine, one double barrel gun, five hand grenades, two mortar shells, one IED, one walkie talkie set, three tear smoke shells, five stun shells, two rubber bullets, five detonators, 10 live rounds of 9 mm ammunition and four blank cartridges of a double barrel gun.
The seized items have been handed over to Yairipok police station.
Meanwhile on March 28, one pistol along with a magazine and two Chinese hand grenades were recovered by Kakching police from Moirangpat Kachin areas.
A combined team of Bishnupur commandos and a column of Kumaon Regiment seized some arms and ammunition while carrying out a search operation in between Saiton and Santhong Canal under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station on March 28.The seized arms and ammunitions included one local made pompi launcher, two local made single barrel, one semi machine carbine with magazine, 36 hand grenades, two mine bombs, three pompi shells, two para shells, one INSAS rifle magazine along with six live rounds, eight ballistic live rounds, four grenade launchers and one .45 live round.
The seized items have been handed over to Phougakchao Ikhai police station.
