Imphal, January 21 2013: Following submission of an ultimatum to the Govt authority demanding identification of a Scorpio vehicle and its owner involved in a hit and run case that claimed the life of M Awungshi Nganaongai, Headmaster of Frontier HS, Tusom, on Dec 18 last, the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal today reminded the authority concerned that it would be compelled to launch various course of agitation if the Government fails to meet the demands raised by TKLI in time.

Giving ten days time to book the culprit involved in the hit and run case, the TKLI has submitted an ultimatum to the CM on Jan 14.The TKLI has been demanding grant of Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia, suitable Govt job to the next of kin, booking of the owner of the vehicle and arrest of the driver and the policeman on duty at kangla Gate on the day.

The ultimatum expires on Jan 24 .

Meanwhile, the Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (ITSL) has pledged to support and endorse whatever action taken up by TKLI in connection with the death of Awungshi Nganaongai.

In a statement, general secretary of TKLI, Ninlum KS wondered that the culprit/s involved in the hit and run case are at large and police have not been able to identify or apprehend them even after a lapse of a month while pointing out that it was a glaring example of the callousness of the police and authority concerned.

The TKLI stated that there cannot be too many Scorpio car in Imphal owned by VVIPs with beacon light fitted.

It added that the police man on duty at the northern gate of Kangla on the day the incident took place should be easily able to reveal the identity of the VVIP who was travelling with his escort party who found a safe haven inside Kangla.

"Heaven and earth was moved by the majority community demanding action against the molestation of a film actress at a function at Chandel by an underground cadre in an inebriated mood.

Whereas, in the case of molestation of tribal girls at Napetpalli on Dec 24, which was very serious if not more than the Chandel incident, was just suppressed and muffled because it happened to involve tribal girls," the TKLI statement said.

As such, the TKLI has been demanding payment of Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the bereaved family as was paid to the family of Dwijamani, a news reporter, suitable Govt job to the next of kin, booking of the owner of the vehicle and arrest of the driver and policeman on duty on the day at northern Kangla Gate.

In a separate statement, ITSL wondered no positive response has been coming from the Government side till date regarding the death of Awungshi Nganaongai.

Pledging full support to the demands of the TKLI, a ITSL statement signed by its joint secretary, Themmila Shanglai accused the Govt of being bias in dealing with the issue.

It added that the demands of the TKLI are not met because the deceased belongs to a minority community while also urging the Govt to avoid any communal feeling in dealing with the issue.
