The main function was organized by the State Government at Manipur Secretariat, South Block here today with PHE Minister I Hemochandra as Chief Guest.
The function was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga; DGP Y Joykumar and other top officials of civil and police departments.
The Statehood Day was also celebrated by BJP at its Nityaipat Chuthek office here today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Th Chaoba, President of BJP, Manipur State Unit, stated that the suffering of the general public ever since Manipur was merged with Indian Union and its negligence towards the Manipur in every sphere is the responsibility of Congress party.
He further stated that Manipur was placed as a part C State for 21 years before it got Statehood on January 21, 1972.The Indian government had suppressed Manipur and not allowed any development to take place for 21 years just because of the intentional attitude of the Congress to suppress the State and its people.
He also charged the Congress for keeping Manipur, which was once an independent Kingdom, in the dark for 21 years and granting Statehood to Nagaland and Khasi & Jaintia Hills in 1963 and 1960 respectively, much before Manipur.
Even after 42 years of Manipur attaining Statehood, the Congress party which has ruled the State for 32 years has not done anything worthwhile for the development of the people.
With institution of Anti-Defection Law under the regime of NDA government, which was set up to have stable government at the State as well as at the Centre, States like Meghalaya and Sikkim have developed.
However, the Act is being used in Manipur in the wrong way and it has remained underdeveloped, Chaoba said.
