Woman hacked to death

Imphal, January 21 2013:
A 57-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by two brothers over a family feud at Yairipok Poirei Khongjin Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, Manipur.
One of the accused in the alleged killing has been surrendered to the police.
Yairipok Poirei Khongjin Mayai Leikai resident Laishram Shakhitombi, wife of L Shamungou, was severely injured when two brothers named Laishram Raj and Laishram Meino attacked her with blatant objects last night around 8 pm, police sources said.
She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Reports said the brawl actually took place between Shakhitombi's son named Laishram Shantikumar and one of his cousins, Raj over a family feud near the residential gate of the victim.
She was trying to calm down the two when Meino got involved in the fight and the two brothers clubbed her.
She was severely injured in the attack and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
However, Raj reportedly surrendered to Lamphel Police Station around 12:30 pm on Monday, police said, adding the other accused, Meino is still absconding.
A case has been registered with the Lamphel Police Station in connection with the incident.
