4 UNLF cadres killed in shoot out with AR

Imphal, January 21 2013:
At least four cadres of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF, were killed in a shoot-out with personnel of 39 Assam Rifles at Vehiang village under Churachandpur district in the wee hours today.
The shoot-out broke out at around 2:45 am today near Pillar number 43 along Indo-Myanmar border under Churachandpur district.
According to police report, around 15 armed cadres of proscribed UNLF were crossing in the territory of Manipur at Veihong village in Churachandpur district from across Myanmar border when they came face to face with personnel of 39 Assam Rifles who were already stationed in the area.
A fierce gun battle broke out along with use of bombs for about 50 minutes between the UNLF cadres and personnel of 39 Assam Rifles.
Soon after the gun battle ceased, the Assam Rifles team searched the area and found four cadres of UNLF lying dead.
Further search of the area led to recover of two AK 47 Rifles and two 9mm Pistols used by the UNLF cadres, the police report said.
When a reinforcement team of Assam Rifles rushed to the area, a massive search operation was launched in the whole area, but the UNLF cadres have already fled crossing into the neighbouring Myanmar, the police report added.
The dead bodies have been picked up by personnel of Singhat Police station in the evening today and handed over the same to the custody of Churachandpur police Station.
The bodies were later on brought to Imphal and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS by late evening.
However, the identities of the slain cadres are yet to be ascertained.
