4 UG cadres killed in gun fight

Imphal, January 21 2013:
Four suspected cadres of UNLF were reportedly killed in an encounter with troops of 39 Assam Rifles at Behiang area of Churachandpur district under Churachandpur Police Station today.
PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement said that the four killed belonged to the UNLF and PLA.
Based on reliable inputs about militants trying to infiltrate into India and carry out IED attacks on the security forces, troops of Red Shield Division launched an operation today in the border area of Churachandpur, said PIB.
At about 3 am the troops intercepted the armed men trying to infiltrate from across the border and a fierce gun fight ensued in which four militants were killed, said PIB.
Two AK series rifles, two pistols and large quantity of arms and ammunition and other stores were recovered from the site, said PIB and added that from the documents recovered, it has been established that the plan was to disrupt Republic Day function at Imphal, Bishnupur and Churachandpur, claimed PIB.
GOC of Red Shield Division Maj Gen KK Sinha and Brigadier Advitya Madan, Commander Churachandpur visited the site of the encounter, to meet Commanding officer, Colonel Vineet Sharma and his officers, said PIB.
