Imphal, December 26 2010: The 43rd foundation day of the Manipur People's Party was celebrated at the party's office here today.

MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang opened the function by hosting the party's flag followed by the party's legislature wing leader O Joy lighting up the functional lamp.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, O Joy noted that many States of India are facing the problem of militancy against which the Government of India has been advocating dialogue to settle all outstanding issues.

Observing that there is political conflict between people who believe in Indian constitution and those who do not believe in Indian Constitution, Joy decried that many people who swore allegiance to the rule of law have become law-breakers and swindlers.

Questioning achievement of the ruling Congress party in the last 10 years, the veteran MLA wondered if Manipur has witnessed any change in its socio-economic condition during this period.

Poor people remain poor whereas rich people are growing richer and richer every passing year.

Highlighting the need for a socio-economic revolution, Joy said that the objective of MPP is equitable development of the State and welfare of all its people.

Protection of culture, religion and identity of the State are other equally important objectives of the party, he added.

Joy went on to state that MPP was established in 1968 primarily to protect the territorial integrity, culture and identity of the State.

MLA RK Anand said that regional parties played crucial roles in the nation building process of India.

Noting that there are 33/34 ethnic groups in Manipur amongst which there is a current of micro nationalism, Anand stressed on the need to ensure participation of each and every ethnic group in the political process.

He also accused the Government of India of employing divide and rule policy in Manipur.Former Minister S Natum Singh said that the 2012 Assembly elections would be a turning point for the people of Manipur.

He asserted that the incumbent Government is unable to provide even the minimum requirements of electricity and potable water.

With people spending Rs 20 every day in buying candles, they are paying double the amount for the dismal electric supply and escalating price of candle, Natum observed.
