Two rescued from Gamgiphai

A Meitei woman and a Meitei Pangal man who were detained by CoTU women wing at Gamgiphai, Kangpokpi district have been rescued by troops of 22 Assam Rifles.
This morning, 22 AR, Motbung received information that two individuals were being detained by CoTU women wing at Gamgiphai.
Soon, troops of 22 AR led by CO Kartik Thapa launched an operation to trace and rescue the two individuals, sources informed.
On reaching the spot, the AR troops found a Meitei woman and a Muslim man being detained by CoTU women wing since around 11 pm yesterday.
On enquiry, the man was identified as Md Hussain Ahmed Ali (51) of Kwakta, Bishnupur.
He revealed that he is an auto-rickshaw driver and he picked up the Meitei woman identified as Laishram Lata (45) w/o late Aken of Sekmaijin from Langjing Bazar.
However, they lost their way and reached Gamgi-phai.
The sources said that both of them were under the influence of alcohol when they reached Gamgiphai village.
The AR CO and the troops persuaded the CoTU women wing to hand over the Meitei Pangal man and the Meitei woman to them.
After securing the release of the two individuals, the AR troops handed them over to Sekmai police station at around 11 am today, said the sources.
