Imphal, December 12 2023:
Assam cadre IPS officer Anand Mishra has been reassigned to lead the Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked to investigate cases of violence in the strife-torn Manipur.
Currently serving as the SP of Assam's Lakhimpur district, Anand Mishra's transfer to Manipur comes in response to directives from the Supreme Court.
As part of the SIT, Assam Police Service officer Randip Kumar Barua has also been included in the investigation team.
Both Anand Mishra and Randip Kumar Barua are set to be transferred to Manipur promptly to take over their roles in the SIT.
Anand Mishra, a well-known figure in Assam Police, previously served as the SP of Nagaon district.
His tenure in Nagaon was marked by controversy, notably involving a firing incident during an anti-drug operation that resulted in the unfortunate shooting of student leader Kirti Kamal Bora by local police.
This incident led to Mishra's relocation from Nagaon.
