Missing since May 6 : Last rites of Samarendra, Kiran to be held on Dec 15

Assumed dead, the last rites of Atom Samarendra and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh who went missing together in the initial stage of the ongoing conflict on May 6 will be held at Khumbong on December 15 (8 am), said the Imphal West Students' Club, Khumbong (IWSCK) .
Notably, Samarendra and Kirankumar are suspected to have been murdered by Kuki militants after the duo was abducted from near Sangaithel Olympian Park on May 6 .
IWSCK, in a statement, said that they decided to hold the last rites on December 15, Mangani Leihun on December 19 and the lanna thouram (Shradha) on December 27 after taking due approval from their respective families.

It also said that a memorial stone of the two will be opened at the ground of IWSCK after the funeral, while appealing to one and all to attend the last rites.
Samarendra (47), a resident of Khumbong Mayai Leikai used to work as a Sub Editor of The Sangai Express before joining the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Lamphelpat as a Junior Assistant (Administration) .
He was also a general secretary of IWSCK and is survived by his wife Kabita Devi and two sons.
Y Kirankumar (47), on the other hand, is survived by his wife Basanti and three children (a son and two daughters).
He was also a member of IWSCK.
Samarendra and Kirankumar were last seen going out together in a Renault Kwid on May 6 from their locality and their phones got switched off near Sheiheibung at around 4.35 pm of the day, as per the statement.
Saying that a missing complaint was lodged at Patsoi police station on May 7, IWSCK continued that a search operation was conducted at the place where the mobile phones of Samarendra and Kirankumar were switched off but couldn't find the duo.
