Imphal, December 12 2023:
Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), a Kuki-Zo committee, "advising all Kuki-Zo public not to visit Naga areas (under NPQ's jurisdiction) to avoid unwanted incidents" as long as the CoTU decision to check vehicles along NH-2 stands.
Speaking to Newmai News Network this evening, NPO president Solomon Arow revealed that the CoTU had written a one sentence letter to the Naga body on December 11 saying that, "in order to avoid unwanted incidents, the pubic of Kangpokpi district will check all vehicles plying on NH-2 with immediate effect" .
The NPO president said that he made several attempts to contact the CoTU chairman to find out the reasons but to no avail.
"He (CoTU leader) did not pick up my phone calls nor did he reply to my WhatsApp messages," Solomon said,-adding, "Following this, he wrote to the COTU today" .
The NPO letter to COTU said, "This is in reference to your letter (dated December 11, 2023), the NPO, Senapati, is appalled by the letter of information to check all vehicles along NH-2 .
Your decision is uncalled for and will cause immense hardship and inconvenience to the public particularly the Nagas, who so far, have been neutral in the ethnic clash between the Meetei community and the Kuki-Zo community" .
Therefore, the NPO, Senapati, appealed to "you to withdraw the decision to check all vehicles along the NH to elevate the suffering of the public.
Any fallout or incident happening due to the decision taken shall not be the responsibility of the NPO" .
The NPO letter to CoTU then advised, "Until the withdrawal of the decision to check all vehicles along the NH-2, all Kuki-Zo public are advised not to visit Naga areas (under NPO jurisdiction) to avoid unwanted incidents" .
