CAU Regional Agri Fair kicks off

Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan on Tuesday inaugurated the 3-day CAU Regional Agri Fair 2023-24 at NER Agri Expo, 4th Mile, Chumoukedima District, Nagaland.
Carrying the theme "North East India Farmers Conclave: Igniting Agri Revolution (Connecting Agri-preneurs to Circular Economy)", this event promises to become a vital platform for knowledge exchange, industry collaboration, and making FPO/FBOs a growth engine in the northeastern region (NER) for igniting the Agri Revolution, said a release.
The function began with a welcome & keynote address by Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal, Vice Chancellor, Dr Anupam Mishra.
The VC elaborated on the theme of the Agri fair and said that the fair aims to attract farmers as well as young minds and motivate them for world class Agripreneurship.
He also highlighted the achievements of CAU.
Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor, Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, emphasized on the role of Agripreneurs to transform the Agricultural Landscape of NE Region.
Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang expressed the need to tap into the potential of Agricultural resources of the North East Region to make the region and the Country self-reliant.
Speaking as the chief guest, La Ganesan called the farmers 'Anna data' and acclaimed their role in providing food security to the world.
Taking into account the rich Bio resources that North East offers, he stressed on the importance of exploring alternative food sources and suggested that CAU should lead in preparing a food atlas of North East Region focusing on Alternative food sources.
The Governor also congratulated CAU for starting a course on Natural Farming.
The inaugural function was also attended by Dr S Basanta Singh, DI, CAU Imphal; Dr Lalita Mohan Garnayak, DR, CAU Imphal; Dr Tilak R Sharma, Registrar; officials of CAU, Deans of Constituent Colleges of CAU, Heads of KVKs, officials of Line Departments, eminent experts, scientists and faculties from across the country in the agriculture and allied sectors.
Facuties, scientists, staff and students of College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, CAU Imphal viewed the Youtube Live stream of the inaugural function.
Release of CAU calendar, souvenirs, kishan diary, CAU farm magazine, inventories of skills, nutrition garden calendar, etc and presentation of Best Professional Extension Award 2021-22, 2022-23 were the other highlights of the function.
The event culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof Ph Ranjit Sharma, DEE, CAU Imphal.
