ASF outbreak: 1781 pigs culled in 432 villages

Imphal, December 12 2023:
With multiple cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak reported in different parts of the state in the last few months, the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has so far culled 1781 pigs from 432 villages located within the notified infected zones.
According to Veterinary and Animal Husbandry joint director Dr RK Khogendrajit, the state has recorded ASF cases at 35 different locations since October 13 .
As per national action plan, the department notified infected, surveillance and free zones based on the epicentre of the ASF cases.
Containment measures were being taken up by the department's 35 task forces also known as Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) .
Apart from culling 1781 pigs, the RRTs also destroyed 23,694 kg of feeds and sanitised 1647 piggery farms to contain the outbreak.
With these measures in place, the department is hopeful of seeing improvement in the situation.
Post culling, the department is taking up sanitisation and sensitisation programmes to prevent further outbreak of the disease.
