Weeklong seed training prog begins

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat inaugurated a training programme on 'Seed Testing and Seed Certification of Crops in NEH Region' at the conference hall of Farmers' Hostel located within the premises of the Manipur Centre, on Thursday.
The inaugural function was attended by Central Agricultural University, Imphal registrar Dr TR Sharma as chief guest, ICAR Manipur Centre's Dr I Meghachandra as president and head Dr Ramgopal Laha as guest of honour.
In his speech, I Meghachandra informed that the government of India enacted the Seeds Act in 1966 and enforced the same in 1968 .
However, the Act has never been properly implemented in the northeast.
He then stressed the need for testing the quality of seeds and its moisture content among others, following which the seed certification is to be provided.
As such, the seed training programme was organised to enlighten the farmers in this regard, he explained.
