Imphal, March 14 2024:
The State unit of National People's Party (NPP) has said that the Government allegedly giving free hands to Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact and arresting leaders of Pambei led UNLF who recently signed a talk agreement with the Government is wrong.
Addressing a press briefing at the office of NPP Manipur unit at Naoremthong today, former Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar said that the NIA arresting three cadres and airlifting them to Allahabad of the outfit which agreed to hold a talk with the Government is ironic.
Joykumar is the National vice president of NPP.
Though declared an unlawful organisation at one time, the Pambei led UNLF had agreed to return to normal lives by signing a talk agreement with the Government at New Delhi, he reminded.
Arresting leaders of the outfit which is in talk with the Government is wrong, he reiterated that the conduct of NIA may lead to escalation of the movement against the Government of India.
NPP also endorses the demand which seeks unconditional release of the three cadres of Pambei led UNLF, he said while asking on what grounds the trio was arrested.
People are not aware of the ground rules which the outfit agreed to conform to while signing the talk agreement, the NPP leader said and wondered if the State Government has any knowledge about the said ground rules.
Neither the NIA nor the Home Minister took up any action against SoO signatory Kuki militant groups for all the wrongful deeds they have done, Joykumar continued and added that the NIA and CBI should take up action against these Kuki militant groups.
He appealed to the Government to abrogate the SoO pact.
People know that the Pambei led UNLF has been taking a big responsibility in defending Meetei villages amid the violence in Manipur, he said.
