SSUM celebrates 9th foundation day

Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) on Thursday celebrated its 9th Foundation Day at Nungshikol Park in Imphal East district.
As a part of the commemorative event, the attendees paid floral tributes and observed two minutes' silence in respect of those martyred in the ongoing conflict and presented mementoes to bereaved families of the martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, SSUM president S Yaima stressed on the role of students in upholding emotional and territorial integrity of Manipur and in building the future of the society.
Mentioning that SSUM along with other student bodies of Manipur is working relentlessly to promote quality education, he affirmed that SSUM will continue to support bereaved families of the martyrs.
As a part of the efforts to establish an egalitarian society, the Union will facilitate admission of 10 IDP girl students, who have passed Class XII, in S Kula Women College, and aid 10 IDP girl students who passed class X to continue education in other schools, he said.
The president also urged authorities concerned and BOSEM to ensure basic items and facilities to the students in timely manner for development of the education sector and promote quality education in the state.
He then conveyed best wishes to students who would be appearing in the Class X exam.
The event was attended by Red Cross Society, Manipur chairman Narendra Ningombam, Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force chief Y Bosan, and All Meitei Pangal Students' Union president W Wajid among others.
