Imphal, June 25 2023:
Sekmai in Imphal West and Sugnu in Kakching district have been found "omitted" in a Manipur map published by the Manipur Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC) raising questions about the authenticity and reliability of the widely circulated map.
The map, published by the MRSAC under the Planning Department in 2022 has no mention of Sekmai and Sugnu in stark contrast to a map it published in 2011 where both the places were mentioned, said New Development Organisation (NDO), Singjamei, chairman Oinam Romen.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Romen said the State map of the MRSAC has raised questions about the reliability of the geographical information it publishes.
Amid the prevailing situation, this omission could potentially exacerbate the ongoing crisis if not promptly addressed, he said, expressing concern felt by the people of Manipur due to the "exclusion" of Sekmai and Sugnu from the map.
Asking for a satisfactory clarification on the issue, Romen drew the attention of the authorities concerned, particularly the Director of Planning to rectify the map.
It may be human error that resulted in the omission of the two places.
It should be rectified and addressed promptly, he said.
