Imphal, June 27 2023:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has expressed strong resentment against the State Government's GAD circular issued on June 26 which seeks to invoke 'No Work, No Pay' to employees of GAD, Manipur Secretariat and DP.
It exposes the State Government's constant piecemeal ploy to achieve forced peace, KIM said in a press statement.
The State Government is putting the lives of so many employees at risk.
Going back to Imphal is a death trap for the Kuki people, it said.
The KIM went on to claim that the two communities- Kukis and Meiteis- are now literally living apart after the 'partition'.
Population exchange between the Kukis and Meiteis was witnessed.
There is literally 'no way' to go back to Imphal, it said.
Pending the separate administration demand of the Kuki people, the Government of India should understand the fear and apprehension of the Kukis to go back to Imphal and immediately facilitate to accommodate Kuki employees to places where they are secure and safe, KIM demanded.
KIM also lamented non-fulfilment of the promises made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the hill districts last month.
His assurances to the people included deputing of super-specialist doctors in the hill districts, removal of police commandos from Moreh and helicopter service to connect the hills districts.
All these promises remained unfulfilled, it said."While we are open to peace, KIM is steadfast in its stand that it would not be a part of any peace initiative under incompetent communal Government(s), CSOs or individuals who orchestrated killings against the Kukis with the sole intention to obliterate the Kukis as a people physically and politically", it said.
Covert and overt attempts to initiate peace shall be met with stiff opposition until the demand for justice is met first as desired and aspired by the Kuki people for lasting and durable peace, it continued.
"Once again, we call upon our people to avow to fight to achieve our ultimate goal of overcoming the systematic oppression, suppression, subordination, deprivation and exploitation, till the last man standing", reads the KIM statement.
It then urged the Government of India to immediately expedite separate administration for the Kukis.
