Governor apprises Manipur situation to PM Modi, Shah, Rajnath

Governor Anusuiya Ui-key called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and defence minis* ter Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday and apprised them of the prevailing situation in Manipur, aftermath the ethnic clashes which had erupted on May 3 .
The Governor informed PM Modi in detail about the series of violent incidents that had taken place both in hill and valley districts which led to the loss of lives and properties.
She also informed him about the various measures taken up by the centre as well as state government to normalise the situation and bring back peace and tranquillity in the crisis hit state.
She further conveyed to the PM about the issues and suggestions received from civil society organisations, political representatives, student organisations, etc., from Meetei, Kuki and Naga communities in the state as well in Delhi.
Furthermore, the Governor explained to him about the condition and grievances of violence affected people staying in relief camps both in hills and valley districts and steps taken up by the government for their early resettlement and rehabilitation.
Governor Anusuiya also called on Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, two days after chief minister N Biren Singh met him.
Nearly 120 people lost their lives and over 3,000 have been injured ever since the ethnic violence broke in Manipur nearly two months ago.
"The Governor of Manipur, Ms.Anusuiya Uikey called on Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri @Am-itShah, " Shah s office tweeted.
After meeting Shah on Sunday, Biren said he had briefed the home minister about the evolving situation on the ground" in Manipur and that the state and central governments have been able to control the violence to a "great extent" .
On June 10, the central government had constituted a peace committee in Manipur headed by the Governor and for facilitating peace making process among various ethnic groups and initiate dialogue between conflicting parties and groups.
However, office bearers of several civil society groups have refused to be part of the peace committee for different reasons.
On June 4, the Centre had set up a Commission of Inquiry, headed by former chief justice of the Gauhati High Court Ajai Lamba, to probe the recent violence in Manipur.
The Union Home Ministry said the commission will make inquiry with respect of the causes and spread of the violence and riots targeting members of different communities, which took place in Manipur on May 3 and thereafter.
Shah had also visited the state for four days last month and met cross sections of people in his efforts to bring back peace in the state.
The Centre had also approved Rs 101.75 crore relief package for the displaced people in Ma nipur following a directive of the home minister.
Later on Tuesday, Anusuiya called met defence minister Rajnath Singh and applauded the efforts of Army for carrying out relief and rescue operations in aftermath of the communal1 violence and providing aid to the civil administration in the violence-hit state.
The Governor briefed the defence minister about the joint combing operations carried out by Army along with other state/paramilitary forces at various sensitive locations and consequently recoveries of huge cache of arms and ammunitions.
She also informed him
that she is being regularly briefed by the higher rank Army/Assam Rifles officers about the security situation in Manipur.
Anusuiya further communicated that multiple medical camps have been organised by Army/AR at various places for the affected people both in hills and valley districts.
