Thoubal, June 27 2023:
Refuting the allegations levelled against peace-loving Meetei people of Sun-gu and Serou area and police by the Joint Kuki-Zo Students' Organisation of Sugnu Hill Area, Meetei residents of Sugnu said the statement made by the Kuki-Zo organisation to the media on June 23 is baseless and fabricated.
According to M Premjit of Sugnu, the organisation named Joint Kuki Zo Students' Organisation of Sugnu Hill Area was never heard of in Sugnu and Serou area before and all the charges made against the Meetei populace and police by the non-existent organisation are unfounded and malicious.
Addressing the media during a press conference organised by Meetei populace of Sugnu area at Kakching Tuesday, Premjit said Chingtam Peace Committee as mentioned by the Kuki-Zo organisation was never formed in Sugnu area though Peace Committee Sugnu AC and adjoining of Chandel, Chu-rachandpur and Bishnupur Committee was formed.
The peace committee managed to maintain peace in Sugnu area from May 4 till May 27 .
While the committee was under peace process from May 4, all the villages of Kuki and Zo were preparing to hostility and even constructed bunkers before attacking Meetei populace and torching houses.
There were bunkers at the entrance of every Kuki Zo village and disturbing development was even informed to Assam Rifles.
Premjit also said that Sugnu MLA Kangu-jam Ranjit wrote a letter to the government to establish an IRB battalion at Serou Lamkhai to enable Serou residents return and reside at the village.
There is no wrong with MLA K Ranjit making efforts to bring peace in the area at his personal level but Joint Kuki Zo Students Organisation of Sugnu Hill Area hurled baseless allegations towards Meetei populace to cover up their wrong deeds and attacking Meetei populace in the area first.
