Imphal, June 27 2023:
Taking serious note of alleged inaction on the part of the central government to resolve the crisis in the state, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) has asked the Centre to stop following the legacy of British government's divide and rule policy in the state.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, AMKIL president Lourembam Ngan bi demanded the Central government to restore the pre-merger status of Manipur if it is not in a position to protect the lives and properties of the people of the state.
Such a demand is justified since the Central government has failed to protect the state and its people.
Instead of stopping the violence and investigating the root so that the truth is exposed to the whole world, the Central government has been watching the whole crisis silently from the comfort of the national capital, Nganbi decried.
Further stating that the people of Manipur strongly condemn the mentality of turning a blind eye on the huge influx of illegal immigrants and the wave of violence unleashed on the native people by outsiders, she also accused the Central govern ment of turning a blind eye to the policy and activities of illegal Myanmarese and Kuki militants under SoO agreement.
Despite the huge presence of BSF, CRPF and Assam Rifles, the Central government is allowing free movement of illegal immigrants, she alleged.
Nganbi said that there is a track record of atrocities and inhumane treatment of the people of the state by Assam Rifles since its deployment in the state.
In the ongoing clash too, Assam Rifles remained a mute spectator when Kuki militants attacked Meetei villages and burned houses while they used forces when Meeteis retaliated.
There are scores of evidences how AR.
assisted or look aside when Kuki militants under SoO carried out the attacks.
For instances, AR supplied their ration to Kuki militants in Sugnu area as found during combing operation carried out in the militants' bunkers.
As such, the Meira Paibi of the area stood against them, Nganbi maintained.
With regard to NDTV report contending that Meetei women helped insurgents, she demanded NDTV to apologise for maligning the image of Meetei women.
It is natural for the womenfolk to protect the youths, who are defending the Meetei villages from Kuki militants when the security forces have failed to do their duty.
It is strongly condemnable that the national media are trying to malign the image of Meetei women by wrongly depicting them as supporters of insurgent groups, she added.
