CM hands over financial assistance at relief camps

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has clarified that Union Home Minister Amit Shah did not say a single word about separate administration during their meeting at New Delhi on Sunday last.
The Chief today launched the 'One time financial assistance for clothing & personnel belonging to those living in relief camps' by distributing financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to those persons taking shelter at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak, Imphal East.
Speaking at the occasion, N Biren said, "I never told the media that the Centre will take care of administration in the hill districts while the Chief Minister would remain in-charge of the valley districts" .
He then appealed to all the people to be wary and vigilant if any element has been conspiring to flare up the crisis anew by floating rumours or false propaganda.

Biren also appealed to the media fraternity to verify all reports before they are published and hold back those reports which are inimical to the integrity of Manipur.
Saying that he was compelled to make a clarification on the people's wrong perception about him, the Chief Minister said he never told the media that the Union Home Minister talked about separate administration.
The truth will be known after listening to the video recording of the particular press briefing, the Chief Minister said.
"There is no one who can run a separate administration in Manipur and we are not the one who will accept any such arrangement", Biren said.
Amit Shah assured that he would take care of all the violent activities perpetrated by Kuki militants and that Meiteis need not worry much.
"Amit Shah told me that the SoO ground rules would be enforced upon Kuki militants in letter and spirit and this was what I told the media", the Chief Minister clarified.
He said that Meira Paibi leaders and CSO representatives have listened to the video recording of his press meet held at Imphal airport.
The situation is so critical that publication of news reports as well as briefing media persons should be done with utmost care, he said.
Observing that Meira Paibis have been working day and night to bring normalcy, the Chief Minister appealed to all sections of people of work collectively in order to bring lasting peace in the State.
On being enquired about the blockade on Imphal-Dimapur highway, Biren said that security forces have started removing bunkers built on the highway.
Biren said that the Government has been working hard to open the highway as soon as peace is restored.
The highway would be opened shortly, he added.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA of Wangoi AC Khuraijam Loken, Chairman, Loktak Development Authority M Asnikumar, Chairman, Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board K Saratkumar, Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi and other senior Government officials were also present at the financial assistance distribution programme.
Delivering a short speech at the gathering, N Biren expressed sadness on the sudden outbreak of unfortunate incidents in the State from May 3 which had made many people flee their respective homes.
He maintained that the Government had been taking all possible steps to provide shelter and temporary housing facilities to the displaced people.
Informing that temporary housing facilities are being constructed at different suitable places for relocating displaced people, he added that they would stay at the temporary housing facilities till the law and order situation improves and they could return to their earlier respective homes.
The Chief Minister appreciated civil society organizations, women and Government officials of the State for remaining alert and preventing occurrence of many untoward incidents, thereby saving lives of people.
Regarding the financial assistance provided today, he informed that the Government, after considering the hardship faced by displaced people, had taken the decision to provide Rs 1000 to each person taking shelter at relief camps as one-time financial assistance.
The financial assistance will be provided through the respective Deputy Commissioners of different districts.
The Government has been putting in every effort to restore peace and normalcy in the State by using its various machinery and security forces have been deployed for guarding places at peripheral areas and the people, Biren said.
He urged the public not to believe in rumours but to stay calm.
He also expressed appreciation to the women of the State for their support in bringing the State towards normalcy.
Later N Biren also visited the 86 Battalion CRPF at Lamphelpat and handed over the one-time financial assistance to those people taking shelter there.
The CM also interacted with the people and further consoled them that normalcy would soon return in the State.
