Kangpokpi, November 16 2023:
The indefinite economic blockade called by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) Kangpokpi came into effect from Wednesday midnight.

CoTU instructed its volunteers to strictly enforce the economic blockade at various locations on both the highways.
The CoTU had stated that it has been agitating for a meaningful resolution but their demands have been consistently ignored.
It also demanded unconditional release of the two Kuki-Zo individuals from alleged illegal detention, and impartial execution of law and order in a democratic set-up.
It further stated that the committee stands resolute in its endeavour for justice and any form of systematic subjugation will be dealt with firmly by the Kuki-Zo people.
The committee also prepared a duty roster to monitor movement of vehicles along the highway.
During the day, Kuki-Zo womenfolk from Lungphou and KYU executives were seen strictly enforcing the economic blockade at Kangpokpi district headquarters while hundreds of womenfolk were enforcing the same at Gamgiphai.
Consequent upon the blockade, a good number of vehicles ferrying essential commodities have been stranded along NH-2 in Senapati area.
