Govt sanctions ₹29 lakh for scribes' welfare

As done across the country, National Press Day - 2023 was also organised by Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) at its Nityaipat Chuthek auditorium, here, on Thursday.
As part of the National Press Day observance, a workshop on the topic "Media in the era of Artificial Intelligence" was organised in the presence of IPR commissioner M Joy Singh, director Dr Th Charanjeet Singh, editors and senior journalists of various media firms.
National Press Day is observed on November 16 every year to celebrate the importance of free and responsible press in a democratic society and to mark the formation of Press Council of India in 1966.The objective of celebrating the day is to remember the contributions of the Press Council of India as well as reminder about the importance of free and independent press in a vibrant democracy like India.
Speaking on the occasion, DIPR director Dr Th Charanjeet pointed out that National Press Day being observed to mark the formation of Press Council of India in 1966.The event at the national level was held in Delhi with Vice President of India taking part in the function.
He informed that the state government is taking up various activities for the welfare of journalists.
Under the Manipur State Welfare Scheme, 22 journalists have been provided help and a total amount of Rs 29 lakh sanctioned under the scheme.
In addition, 26 journalists are being provided pensions under Manipur Journalists' Pension scheme.
The Manipur Working Journalist's Pension Rules, 1996 provides a one-time pension payment of Rs 10,000 to veteran journalists.
Later, during the workshop moderated by Impact TV editor in chief, Yumnam Rupachandra, MU Computer Science Department assistant professor Khumukcham Robindro Singh and NIELIT senior technical officer Thongam Bobo spoke as resource persons.
An interaction session was also held as part of the workshop.
Students of Department of Mass Communication and Computer Science, Manipur University and students of NIELIT, Akampat also participated in the workshop.
