Fairs provide experiential learning to students: Gyan Prakash

Pointing out that students can remember better from experiences rather than rote learning, Education (S) commissioner Gyan Prakash has stated that organising exhibitions will enable the students to bring out their own ideas, apart from ensuring experiential learning in the process.
Speaking at the closing function of the 5-day State Level Science, Mathematics and Environmental Exhibition held under the theme "Technology and Toys" at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, Keishamthong, here, on Thursday, Gyan Prakash lauded the organisers for holding the fair amid the crisis situation in the state and expressed satisfaction that the students gained experiential learning during the exhibition.
He pointed out that firsthand experiences from such exhibitions will have lasting impression on minds of students as compared to knowledge gained from reading books.
The exhibition provided the opportunity to students to learn and remember new things for a long time, maintained the commissioner.
On the theme of the exhibition "Technology and Toys", Gyan Prakash said that is quite apt in the present era.
Earlier mechanical toys were made and used but now AI enabled toys are being manufactured for use by people of all ages, he noted.
Fifteen best exhibitors were selected from amongst exhibitors of the fair for taking part in the National Science, Mathematics and Environmental Exhibition to be held in Delhi in December.
Among the 15 best exhibitors, Irashini Laiphrakpam of Diligent Public School, Bishnupur; Sorokhaibam Estina Chanu of Oinam Government Higher Secondary School, Bishnupur; and Suryadita Kangabam of Victory High School, Kakching received the first, second and third prize respectively.
The toppers of the exhibition organised by Department of Education (S) Science Unit in association with Samagra Shiksha Manipur were provided cash prizes, mementoes and certificates.
Winners of the science quiz competition held as part of the exhibition, 17 consolation prize winners, 9 best teacher guides arid state level best teacher guide were also presented prizes during the function.
