Bishnupur, September 18 2023:
Terming as unfortunate Union home minister Amit Shah's assurance to state MLAs to restrict meira paibi activists for 10 days during which he will resolve the crisis in the state, Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup (BAAL) president L Devchand Singh has asserted that if the Union minister continues to make such demeaning comments against the meira paibi movement they will launch intense agitation.
Addressing a press meet on Sunday at BAAL office in the presence of secretary T Bikram and women wing secretary O Bina Devi, L Devchand stated that meira paibi activists are guarding their villages and stopping movement of central forces as they have remained mute spectators to the killing of the Meiteis by the armed Kukis as well as have resorted to firing tear gas, smoke bombs and even live rounds injuring many women who were trying to extend help people in areas attacked by armed Kukis.
On the other hand, O Bina Devi said that rents of shops in bazar area should be halved till normalcy returns as fewer customers are coming presently.
She also urged organisations not to lake any donations from public and if any contribution was needed for the prevailing crisis in the state, the Lup will extend all the help it can.
