Discussion held on 'Kokyet' as uniform of Parliament staff

Considering the apprehension of the people about donning 'Kokyet' as new uniform for Parliament staff (marshals), Uttra Shanglen and Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) conducted a meeting and adopted several resolutions.
In a release, Uttra Shanglen Sana Konung Angom Ningthou Angom Poireiton informed that the meeting expressed delight for selecting Meitei 'Kokyet' as uniform for the parliament.
However, in order to find out the type of Kokyet to be used and whether using of such Kokyet will be an affront to culture and tradition of the Meitei, the meeting resolved to send a written letter to Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
The meeting resolved that no 'Kokyet' used for rituals, by kings and gift presented to royal officials that will harm the culture and identity will be allowed.
Pointing out that Salai Kokyet Macha were used by the lower ranked staff of the royal palace in earlier times and presently used by marshal of Manipur Legislative Assembly, the meeting considered that no harm will be done in using the aforementioned 'Kokyet'.
However, the meeting maintained that no permission will be given if it were used improperly.
