Family appeals for unconditional release of village volunteers

Imphal, September 18 2023:
Reacting against the arrest of the five persons, who had been protecting villages against attack by miscreants, family members of the five volunteers appealed to the state government for their unconditional release by September 20 .
Addressing media persons regard at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, L Gojen, who is one of the family members of the village volunteers, stated that ever since the ethnic violence broke out on May 3 last, armed Kuki-narco terrorists have been attacking Meitei villages and waging war against the Meitei community.
Such acts of the Chin-Kuki narco terrorists led to the Meitei youths to serve voluntarily for saving Manipur.
The youth are forced to join the war as the state government could not protect Meitei women from being raped and tortured and Meitei houses torched.
He further informed that the 5 volunteers who arrested by Manipur police from Kongba area on September 16 are volunteers committed to saving Manipur and besides helping the displaced people staying in the relief camps.
Appealing to the state government to release the 5 village volunteers by September 20, Gojen said that they will be constrained to launch intense form of agitation with the support of the general public in case of failure to honour the genuine appeal, and urged the meira paibi groups, clubs and CSOs to extend support.
