Bishnupur, September 18 2023:
Residents of Moirang areas organised sit-in protests at Sendra and Moirang Khunou in Bishnupur district on Monday demanding early restoration of peace in the state.
The protests were organised under the aegis of All Thanga People's Organisation (ATPO).
A member of ATPO women's wing said that thousands of houses have been razed to the ground and tens of thousands of innocent people rendered homeless apart from the deaths and injuries suffered by the people in the violence that erupted since May 3 from Churachandpur district.
Even after four months have passed, both the governments in the state and the Centre are doing nothing to control the violence.
The crisis has not only affected the life and livelihood of the people but also the education sector, she pointed out, while demanding the government to resolve the crisis and restore peace in the state at the earliest.
People who took part in the protest held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Stop narco-terrorism', 'No Separate Administration', 'Provide amicable solution for resettlement in Churchandpur, Moreh, Kangpokpi & other Kuki occupied places', 'No bifurcation of Manipur', 'We want peace', and 'Remove Assam Rifles from Manipur' among others.
