Manipur violence: Players take out peace rally

To bring back peace and normalcy in the state, sportspersons of the state took out a peace rally on Saturday under the aegis of Manipur Olympic Associa-tion, the apex body of sports associations of the state.
Prominent sportspersons including Olympians, Asian Games medalists, nation-al awardees, international players, national players, trainees of SAI NERC and SAI SAG, YAS regular coaching centre players, players of NSU and sports enthusiasts took part the rally.
Dronacharya awardee L Ibomcha Singh, Olympian and Padmashree 0 Bembem and Olympian Sonia among others led the rally, which was flagged off from Manipur Olympic Bhavan at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and ended at the starting point after covering Khurai bridge along Dingku road.
During the rally, the play-ers raised slogans to stop violence and bring peace and appealed to the war-ring communities to reach an understanding and bring back peace.
Regarding the rally, Ma-nipur Olympic Association secretary Sunil Elangbam told media persons that prevailing tense situation in the state is creating appre-hension among players that they might miss national and international sports events.
The restive situation may also affect the state's reputation as powerhouse of sports in the country, he said and ap-pealed all concerned to work towards returning peace and normalcy.
