The All Manipur Gorkha Students Union (AMGSU) has prayed for peace in the face of the communal violence which erupted on May 3 and called upon communities in contention to shun violence and come together for a lasting peaceful solution.
In a press note, AMGSU suggested that grievances and misunderstandings can be addressed through negotiation and table talk while calling upon the two warring communities to join hands in bringing peace and normalcy in the State.
AMGSU also extended its condolences to those who lost their family members during the violence including one Gorkhali/ Nepali killed at Serou and prayed for speedy recovery of all injured persons.
Expressing regret over loss of precious lives and destruction to valuable properties, AMGSU also stated that violence will not have any better outcome and rather bring more misunderstanding.
It also appealed to the Government to take the leading role in bringing an amicable and peaceful solution at the earliest while also seeking authorities concerned to arrange security and help resettlement of displaced people and provide free education to the affected students.
AMGSU also appealed to all concerned to refrain from violence, spreading rumours and other destructive forms of behaviours which lead to more suffering and cause hardships to common people.
The union has been actively engaged in humanitarian work to help people in relief camps with voluntarily donated relief materials, AMGSU said.
While adding that Gorkhas are peace loving people, AMGSU also added that it will also contribute in bringing peace and normalcy in the State.
It also asked the Gorkha community not to be involved in any type of activities which can harm and hurt sentiment of any particular community.
