RIMS doctors dread posting in riot-hit hill districts

Maintaining that their life will be at stake if posted in riot-hit areas including Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Moreh, doctors of Regional Insti-tute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), whose posting orders were issued some days back by the competent authority, have expressed reluctance to perform their duties in their new places of posting.
As per the notification by ministry of health and family, a total of 28 doctors, including 12 from RIMS were to serve in healthcare institutions in the three aforementioned places on deputation basis.
The notification was issued after Union Home minister Amit was urged by lead-ers of Moreh in Tengnoupal district, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur during his visit, to send medical teams to their districts.
The doctors of RIMS have com-plained that discharging duties in the violence hit districts will put their life in extreme danger and that there is none to save their lives in the said districts.
In this connection, a written statement has been submitted to the RIMS director by the doctors highlighting the danger and strong possibility of losing their life if they are posted in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Moreh.
Mention made that 24 doctors working at different medical institutions run by the Central government were ordered to serve on deputation in Manipur to ensure complete healthcare facilities to people of the state.
Under-secretary Jeetendra Kumar Jangid of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (NE section), had sent a written communi-qW in this regard to Manipur chief secretary Vineet Joshi.
Of the 24 doctors tasked to work in the three places, eight are from AIIMS Guwa - hati, four from NEIGRIHMS Shillong and the rest from RIMS, Imphal.
The medical professionals from RIMS Include Dr L Chin-glensana (surgery), Dr Rahul Hidangmayum (psychiatry), Dr Th Satyakumar (paediatric), Dr Laikhuram Malemnganba (surgery GI), Dr If Dhwijaraj Sharma (medicine), Dr Biswanath Konjengbam (urology), Dr Y Ajit (Obs & gynea), Dr Dayananda Kshetriya (casualty), Dr Longjam Anil (surgery), Dr M Amu* (paediatric), Dr Laishram Guddu (plastic surgery) and Dr L Bishwanath (Obs & gynea).
The communiqu� also informed all the deputed doctors to report to Manipur chief secretary, who will decide place of posting for teams of four doctors.
It may be mentioned that following the communal violence which hit the state since May 3, many Meitei people from all walks of life including doctors fled Churachandpur after their houses were burnt by miscreants.
