A mass rally was taken out today under the aegis of the All Wangjing Lamding Kaore-mbikhok Club Organisation( AWALAKACO) with a call for peace in the wake of the ongoing turmoil in the State since May 3 .
Thousands including displaced people sheltering at relief camps opened in Wangjing, Meira Paibis and volunteers of clubs in Wangjing, Lamding, Kairembik and others took part in the rally which was flagged off from EEO Lamding playground.
The rallyists marched along Asian Highway stretch upto Wangbal Keithel raising various slogans including "We want peace," "abrogate SoO pact with Kuki militants'', "flush out illegal immigrants'', "Preserve Reserve and Protected Forest covers'', "stop poppy cultivation" etc.
They took a turn from place and retake the highway route before culminating at Kodompokpi where a meeting was held and took various resolutions.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally an advisor of AWALAKACO Narengbam Rajivkumar expressed regret that uneasiness and tension remained very fresh even as the situation has turned a month despite efforts from various quarters.
Even as the people taking shelter in relief camps are provided with basic amenities and counselling, their state of mind are still disturbed as the situation never gets better and attacks and killings go on in parts of the State, he said.
He also added that the peace rally was organised with a bid to draw the Government's attention and help end the violence at the earliest.
