Imphal, June 03 2023:
Accusing the Central paramilitary forces, particularly Assam Rifles of supporting the violence unleashed by Kuki militants in collaboration with illegal immigrants upon the Meitei community, people in large groups, specially womenfolk have been keeping a strict vigil at different areas of Moirang AC and Kumbi AC in Bishnupur district so as to prevent the entry of AR troops.
Groups of people have been keeping close watch day and night at different points on Moirang-Kumbi road so as to prevent entry of AR troops.
MLA Kh Joykisan had a lengthy interaction last night with the people including Meira Paibis who have stationed themselves at Kumbi Thongkhong.
Joykisan said that he was there to share the pain and sorrow of the people.
Saying that he had visited some other affected villages too, Joykisan said that he would put up the night there.
Earlier, MLA Joykisan attended a public meeting held at Kumbi Lai Sandhong premises which was also attended by MLA S Premchandra, Bishnupur SP N Herojit and officers of 2nd Mahar Regiment.
One Jaya Khangenbam who was among the Meira Paibis stationed at Kumbi Thongkhong said that respect the army as well as the paramilitary forces.
"But we feel very bad when they remain silent in the face of relentless and merciless attacks unleashed by the combined force of Kuki militants and illegal immigrants upon Meitei villages", she said.
AR troops sat back totally unconcerned when Kuki militants set on fire several houses of Phoubakchao Ikhai, she decried.
Majority of the Meitei people settled in rural and peripheral areas are poor families and they usually do not keep guns, Jaya said.
"We are keeping a strict vigil round the clock to defend ourselves and prevent entry of Assam Rifles", she said.
Demanding immediate abrogation of SoO with Kuki militants, she expressed strong reservation against Union Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement for massive combing operations.
If combing operation must be carried out, it should be done in both the hills and the valley only after abrogation of SoO, she asserted.
Until and unless the Union Home Minister's assurance to stop violence and arson is translated into action, AR troops would not be given any passage in Moirang and Kumbi areas, she said.
One Moirangthem Indu of Kumbi Lamlong appealed to all concerned to stop claiming that the violence has subsided or the situation has calmed down by sitting at Imphal.
Informing that Kuki militants are still firing toward Pombikhok, she appealed to the Chief Minister to come to Kumbi and stay there just for one night instead of claiming that the situation has calmed down.
Moreover, large groups of people lined up all the way from Wabagai to Sugnu and also in Kakching today demanding withdrawal of Assam Rifles.
Almost all of them held placards which read "Go back, Assam Rifles" .
