WTR destroys opium worth ₹4.40 lakh

In line with its stand of prohibiting illicit poppy cultivation and opium trade in Ukhrul district, the Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) of GPRN on Tuesday destroyed around 12.445 kg of opium.
In a statement, WTR said that a reliable source had informed them about a potential opium sale in Khamasom Phungthar village on Monday.
WTR officers immediately swung into action and raided the location, leading to confiscation of around 12.445 kg of opium, worth Rs 4,40,000, it said.
The seized drugs were then disposed of on Tuesday at 1 pm in the presence of prominent leaders from civil society, church and WTR staff at the WTR Office.
"Wung Tangkhul Region will not tolerate illicit drug trafficking of any kind.
Serious actions will be initiated against those indulging in such destructive business activities," it said.
