Security forces hold public meeting at Kanto Sabal

A public meeting was held under the initiative of 6th Manipur Rifles commandant (CO) L Lenin at Ima Tameijembi Mandap at Kanto Sabal on Monday.
Speaking during the public meeting, Kumaon Regiment colonel Suraj Singh informed the gathering that the Indian army has been contributing its mite to restore peace in Kanto Sabal area so that the people can live without any fear.
A number of security personnel have been deployed in the area to control unwanted incidents from happening, he said and appealed to public to extend cooperation and support to initiative of the army personnel.
The people of Kanto Sabal while putting up their grievances and airing lack of trust in central forces, said that a number of top ranked army officers had visited the area in the past and held meetings with the public wherein the army assured to destroy bunkers built illegally.
Though some bunkers were dismantled, the same were rebuilt right after the security forces left the area.
In the recent past, miscreant burnt down houses in the presence of army personnel consequently destroying the trust people of Kanto Sabal had on the armed forces, they maintained.
After giving patient hearing to the public's complaints, colonel Suraj pointed out that since his posting in the area, additional security personnel have been deployed following which gun fights have gone down considerably in the last couple of weeks.
He also appealed to the public to help destroy bunkers in the area.
The public informed him that Meiteis neither construct bunkers nor possess guns.
