Kangpokpi, June 26 2023:
A sit-in protest held in Kangpokpi district has strongly accused meira paibis of attacking a "Gallantry Awardee" officer of the Assam Rifles during their alleged attempt to storm Kangpokpi District Police Check Point at Gamgiphai on June 24 .
The protest was held at Gamgiphai yesterday against the alleged "anti-national" activities of the meira paibis.
Condemning the incident, Moi, a woman protestor, stated that Captain Maningba is a recipient of Gallantry Award and a national hero for the bravery and heroism shown in Galwan crisis.
"We appreciate the security forces, especially the AR Mahila for foiling violence in the peripheral area by performing their duties well and good.
The meira paibis, unfortunately, accused the security forces of being biased, which is totally false and misleading", Moi added.
"Targeting the Assam Rifles to move out from the buffer zone is nothing but to give free runs to the Meitei armed miscreants", Moi alleged.
She further said that ignoring their huge contribution in saving thousands of innocent lives, the meira paibis targeting the Central forces and blaming them for being biased is not only unfortunate but an "anti-national" act.
Moi also sought the immediate attention of the Central Government with an appeal to look into the matter at the earliest.
Neinu, another woman protestor, said that if such is the role played by the meira paibis and they continue to attack the Central forces who are maintaining peace between the two warring communities then peace cannot limp back into the State.
The women protestors shouted slogans such as "Stop intruding into Kangpokpi district", "We condemn meira paibi" and held placards with messages such as "Meira paibis are no more a respectable Meitei mothers organization", "We condemn meira paibis manhandling of security forces while performing their duties", "Love your Indian Army as we love them", "We condemn manhandling of our national hero" etc.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi Manipur and Committee on Tribals Unity Sadar Hills have strongly reacted to the proposed CM's outreach program to talk with the CSOs and declined the peace initiative.
