One convicted in sexual assault case

One Irengbam Taibanganba (33) has been convicted for commiting sexual assault on a minor girl on March 29 in 2018 somewhere under the police jurisdiction of Mayang Imphal police station, by a Fast Track Special Court Number 1 Manipur today.
Taibanganba of Phaobakchao Awang Leikai was convicted under Section 6 of POCSO Act and Section 366 of Indian Penal Code by the Court and fixed June 30 for sentence hearing.
The convict was on bail.
In a complaint filed before the Mayang Imphal police station by the mother of the minor victim, the mother stated that her daughter was wooed and taken away from a Thabal Chongba spot on March 29 night in 2018 by the convict on the pretext of buying snacks.
The scene was witnessed by people who were at the venue and she subsequently started searching for her daughter on learning it.
Her daughter was found after around 20 minutes of searching in a paddy field with her clothes stripped and crying in pain, she stated.
The convict was arrested by a team of Mayang Imphal police station very soon and legal proceedings were taken up.
Later the Investigating Officers submitted charge sheets before the Special Court POCSO Imphal West for taking up cognizance and the Court eventually framed charge sheets against the convict on July 24 in 2018 under Section 6 of POCSO Act for committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault and under section 366 of IPC for kidnapping/ abduction.
The trial of the case was transferred from Special Court POCSO Imphal West to Fast Track Special Court Number 1 Manipur for speedy trial by an order of the High Court of Manipur.
During the trial of the case, charges levelled against the convict were proven beyond reasonable doubt courtesy 13 prosecution witnesses including the victim.
Eventually, the Court convicted Irengbam Taibanganba under section 6 of POCSO Act and under section 366 IPC and the conviction order was kept reserved until today.
