Imphal, June 26 2023:
The statement made by chief minister N Biren Singh to the media after holding discussion with Union home minister Amit Shah on the prevailing situation in Manipur on Sunday is creat ing confusion among the public, stated Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .
Chief minister N Biren and Union home minister Amit Shah could have discussed about resolving the crisis in Manipur.
However, the statement made by CM Biren on his arrival at Imphal airport from New Delhi on Sunday that he has been advised to tackle problems in the valley while the problems of Kuki militants will be handled by Union home minister not only created confusion but also heightened anxiety among the masses.
CM Biren might have made this remark in a positive way with a strategy to bring an end to the present crisis but confused people of the state as it will not be right to bring solution by separating hills and valley, COCOMI said in a statement.
While maintaining that Manipur would cease to exist if its hills and valley are separated, COCOMI asserted that means for resolving the present crisis must be based on the collective mindset of hills and valley.
It also said that CM of Manipur is for entire people of the state and not solely for the valley dwellers.
It would not be right for Union home minister to take responsibility for resolving the present crisis in the hills, COCOMI while adding that the Union home minister is for the entire people India and should not take responsibility for only the hills of Manipur.
The COCOMI further said that CM Biren's remark made at the time when people are launching movement to safeguard territorial integrity of Manipur was not only illogical but also caused suspicion among people about yielding to the demand for separate administration within the state.
