Essentials distributed at relief camps

Imphal, October 08 2023: Works minister Govindas Konthoujam and his better half K Rajni distributed essential winter items to relief camps set up at Old Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur and Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Govindas observed that there is some semblance of normalcy returning in the state.

Stating that it is easy to find faults but often hard to appreciate the truth, he maintained that the government has taken steps to provide compensation for the lost and damaged properties due the ethnic violence in the state.

Construction of prefabricated houses at Sericulture office complex in Kwakta is almost complete and the government will provide all help to displaced people who are willing to shift to these temporary houses, he assured Govindas also appealed to all for working towards restoration of peace in the state without resorting to violence.

Announcing that 10 sewing machines and five looms will soon be provided to the inmates of relief camps in Bishnupur, he emphasised that having economic independence will ensure peace and security for ourselves and for bur children.

The programme was also attended by members of Apunba Tengbang Lup, Bishnupur and Ningthoukhong Apunba Lup.

Meanwhile, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Manipur Branch distributed hygiene kit, blankets and other relief items to 234 displaced people from Moreh and Churachandpur who are staying in the relief camp at Ideal Girls' College, Akampat on Sunday.

The programme was attended by IRCS Manipur chairman Narendra Ningomba, secretary A Nabachandra, honorary treasurer Dr Senjam Sunil, IRCS Imphal East secretary Laishram Kuber and patron member Jadumani, among others.

On the other hand, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Women Peace Committee provided edibles for the inmates of relief camp at Chairel Mangjil and village volunteers on Sunday.

Lions Club of Canchipur, Canchipur Centurion, Canchipur Greater, Canchipur Palace and Canchipur Unified jointly conducted a free health camp at Ibudhou Panganba community hall, Hiyanglam for inmates of relief camps in Hiyanglam Wabagai area on Sunday in collaboration with locals clubs, and former Hiyanglam MLA Elangbam Dwijamani under the supervision eight doctors and other medical workers.

Meanwhile, five women of Singjamei Kshetri Leikai visited the residence of village vol unteer Loitongbam Naoba at Kanto Khulen Awang Leikai and provided monetary aid and other items to him on Sunday.

Similarly, SAYOL Foundation and Manipur University Department of Mass Communication handed over relief materials to inmates of relief camp set up at Kwakta Santhong Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district on Sunday.

Elected representatives of Takyel ZP and GP including Panchayat Secretary and GRS led by ZP member Ng Bimo-la and Pradhan Kh Priyobala also provided food items to the inmates of the relief camp at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhgong.

Besides, the GP had also provided 12 days of work under MGN-REGS to the displaced people in the relief camp.
