Manipuri Muslim Meira Paibi Sanstha celebrates

All Manipuri Muslim Meira Paibi Sanstha (AM-MMPS) celebrated its 3rd foundation day oh October 5 at Bhaga, Islamabad in Assam's Cachar district.
Among others, the event had generous contribution of Rs 5 lakh cabinet minister Primal Suklabaidya from his local area development fund for the welfare of Manipuri Muslim Meira Paibis (torch-bearing mothers) operating in Cachar district.
He also announced a special package for development of the organisation s office complex, construction of a public community hall, and spruce-up of the approach roads.
On the occasion, minister Suklabaidya also acknowledged the challenges faced by Meitei Pangal communities in the district and assured of a swift response to address these issues, in response to a memorandum submitted by the Meira Paibi group.
Distinguished personalities from Assam and Manipur, including Moirang College principal Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, retired additional secretary of Assam Nandababu Singha, assistant director of textiles Lairellakpam Harilal Singha, assistant professor of S R College Dr Abul Khan Choudhury, Federation of Civil Societies Organisations (FOCS) vice-chairman BM Yaima Shah, and Lakhipur East ZP member Kabrabam Anita also attended the foundation day as special guests.
A two-minute silence was also observed to honour Ima Memchoubi Devi and Ima Sitara Begum, leaders of Manipuri Meira Paibi movement while FOCS extended financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to the Sanstha.
In his address, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh emphasised the pivotal role being played by Manipuri women in societal transformation, underscoring the unique culture they have cultivated.
He stressed the need to support and preserve this culture for the benefit of future generations, and also highlighted the long history of women's participation in safeguarding the community.
Lakhipur ZP member Anita Devi, in her keynote address, reiterated the significance of the foundation day, which was observed at various locations, where Manipuri Muslims reside in Cachar district.
The event aims to underscore the invaluable contributions of the torch-bearing mothers in various domains, including combating anti-social elements, drug abuse, and uplifting educational, social, and economic statuses, particularly in the backward areas of the district, she said.
