Imphal, August 28 2023:
Volunteers of Thawai Mirel Women's Wing sustained the relay hunger strike at Singjamei on Monday in continuation of the demonstration being held since August 21 to demand unification of CSOs and adoption of a firm resolution in the state assembly session for protecting the integrity of Manipur.
Speaking on the sidelines of the agitation, a participant pointed that Manipuri womenfolk wished that the assembly session be held for at least four-five days so as to take a firm resolution for protecting Manipur.
If the one-day session fails to take such a stand, then intense forms of agitations will be launched by womenfolk, she cautioned, while urging civil society organisations to unite and work together for protecting Manipur.
On Sunday, the seventh day of the hunger strike, volunteers of the Women's Wing congregated at Naorem Leikai Naharol Yaiphakol Meira Paibi Lup Shanglen.
Among others, some participants demanded that the government authorities book and put on trial those responsible for the ethnic violence.
The relay hunger strike was also carried out in different parts of the state on Sunday.
