Imphal, August 28 2023:
While joining the growing chorus against the single day Assembly session called on August 29, the Coordinating Committee of 27 Assembly Constituencies has urged the Government to take a reso-lution that would grant Constitutional protection to Manipur's integrity.
Even though a single day session is not enough to discuss the present issue tho- roughly and completely, the House should take a concrete resolution that would grant Constitutional protection to Manipur and its integrity, it said in a statement.
Meanwhile, by calling a single day Assembly session on August 29, the State Government is mocking the people, said the coordinating committee.
"The Government is mocking and disrespecting the people by calling a one day session.
Party politics shouldn't be given more weight than the common interests of the people," it said.
The Government should not fool the people who can see through its plan.
The single day session has been called to save the Government, and is not aimed at discussing the more than 3 months long conflict between the communities, it claimed.
While the Assembly is supposed to discuss the crisis thoroughly, it is likely to fall short without the House taking any conclusive and meaningful resolutions to solve the issues facing the State, it added.
However, in any case, a concrete resolution to grant Constitutional protection to Manipur must be taken in the Assembly session to thwart all issues now and in future that may threaten Manipur's integrity, said the committee.
Further, the Centre's idea of granting greater autonomy to district councils must not in any way compromise the interests of the people, it added.
On the other hand, the selective ban on internet services has created a digital and a class divide among the people, said the committee.
By allowing only a few services, broadband and leased lines, the Government has created a class divide among the people.
While allowing people with money to connect to the internet and conduct their businesses, the same right of the poor has been curbed.
The Assembly should take a resolution to end this selective ban and remove the ban on mobile internet service, it said.
The committee added that people may start agitating against the selective ban on the internet services if it is not removed soon.
