Imphal, August 28 2023:
The United People's Front (UPF), Manipur celebrated its silver jubilee on Monday at Manipur Press Club, here with president Nongthonbam Rupachandra, UCM secretary general Wareppam Second, MAPI Council chairman KC Ro-mio, NIPCO president Oinam Premjit and UPF advisor advocate L Jadu as presidium members.
In his speech, Rupachandra said that many politicians are condemning convening of the Manipur Legislative Assembly session for one day only as the session is being convened only to save the government.
In view of the present situation, the government should have convened the session for at least four/five days in public interest, he said.
According to Rupachandra, the ethnic violence which erupted on May 3 has rendered thousands of people homeless and made them refugees in their own land.
He said that both the Centre and state government must look into suffering of people displaced by the ongoing conflict and bring a solution at the earliest.
He also said that UPF will shoulder responsibility in ensuring return of the people displaced by the conflict to their respective homes and bring normalcy in the society.
He also called upon people to push for updation of NRC in Manipur and stand united against the demand for a separate administration.
In his keynote address at the event, UPF general secretary Sanasam Subhaschandra said that UPF was established in 1998 with the united effort of student activists.
He said that UPF condemns the violent acts of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists and the front will always shoulder responsibility in safeguarding integrity of Manipur.
