Tree plantation programme held

Imphal, August 28 2023:
As part of the Pilot Project of International Lions Club 322D, Lions Club of Imphal Paradise yesterday organised a 1-day tree plantation programme in the campus of Institute of Driver Training & Research Centre (IDTRC) at Yaralpat, Imphal East district.
During the event, Shantikumar Naorem secretary Lions Club of Imphal Paradise, stated that the primary goal of this programme is to plant at least 30 million native & endemic trees across the country by 2025 .

Highlighting that mass plantation of these saplings take place every year between June-September (monsoon) and January-February (late winter), he said, "Such type of tree plantation programme will be carried out by the volunteers, farmers, NGOs and school children" .
"Trees not only beautify our environment but also provide a source of livelihood for nearly a quarter of the world's population", he added.
He continued that many communities around the world depend on the trees for food, timber, fuel, medicine and shelter.
"Trees also help to clean our air & soil, preserve our natural water resources and provide protection from soil erosion, landslides, flooding, extreme weather and desertification", he added.
