Thoubal, August 28 2023:
While decrying demolition of houses by the government in Waithou Protected Forest area under Thoubal district, the evicted people asserted that they will resettle at the same location if the government fails to take up resettlement measures initiative within a week.
Addressing media persons at the relief camp set up in Waithou Khongnang Karak on Monday, a camp resident named, Naorem Ibema pointed out that they have been staying at the temporary facility for the past one year and three months as their houses were all demolished.
While expressing strong resentment that the government has been undermining their plight and problems, she also recalled the assurance given by CM N Biren through media to provide home to the homeless on the next day of the eviction and enquired whether the homes have been provided to the homeless or not.
She also claimed that the genuine homeless people are yet to have their own homes.
Highlighting the inconveniences being endured by them with many suffering mental trauma, Ibema drew the attention of CM N Biren to look into the matter at the earliest and reiterated that they will resettle in the Protected Forest Area if the government could not provide homes to them within a week.
They will face all the consequences and will even take extreme steps, she cautioned.
