Addressing the gathering, Nongthombam Rupa-chandra, president, UPF Manipur said that the indigenous people of Manipur have been reduced to living like refugees as a result of the violence that erupted on May 3 .
Those living in the foothills and peripheral areas continue to face numerous hardships as Kuki militants persistently attack them and raze their houses to the ground.
People used to live freely in Manipur, but now they are deprived of even moving freely in their own land, he said.
Thus, he appealed to the State and Central Government to take decisive actions to ensure safe return of relief camp inmates to their respective homes and restoration of normalcy in Manipur.
Notably, he also made an earnest appeal to lift the ban imposed on internet services and thereby alleviate the hindrances placed on various educational endeavours of the people as well as other related activities.
Further, he raised a call for implementation of NRC in Manipur at the earliest.
The UPF president then expressed strong desire for extension of the one-day monsoon session of the Assembly so that the State legislators can discuss the issues plaguing the State at length and take proper resolutions.
Meanwhile, Advocate L Jadu, advisor, UPF Manipur spoke as resource person on the subject of India's divide and rule policy as a cause of tension among different communities in Manipur.
