Imphal, August 28 2023:
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved in-principle upgrade of Mayai Lambi to a four-lane highway keeping in view of the increasing traffic volume, according to Wangoi MLA Kh Loken, who also informed that the project is likely to begin from early next month.
Consequent to the in-principle nod by the ministry, the MLA along with PWD chief engineer N Subhash and other department officials on Monday made an assessment of the possible impact of the project, which would entail land acquisition.
Interacting with the media, Kh Loken noted that though Mayai Lambi is an important state highway the width of the road is unsuitable to accommodate the increasing number of vehicles plying along the route.
Due to narrowness of the highway, there have been multiple instances of road mishaps.
Earlier, there were some issues concerning willingness of the people likely to be affected by the project but those issues have been sorted out, he said.
Loken also informed that the government will soon submit a detailed project report to the ministry and once the DPR is approved, process for land acquisition and payment of compensation will begin.
Regarding his visit, the MLA said that they were exploring possible diversion for the stretch from Ningthemcha Karong to Sekmaijin so that religious and historical sites along the highway may be left untouched.
