Convention bats for road map to safeguard territorial integrity

A day-long con vention on "Children and Women in Present Conflict in Manipur" has adopted a number of resolutions including creating a roadmap for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur on Monday.
The convention jointly organised by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) was held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, here.
The resolutions adopted included bringing out a roadmap to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur and the government; pressing authority concerned to re-construct houses of Meiteis destroyed in the ethnic violence at their respective places at the earliest; befitting punishment to those involved in committing atrocities to women and children during the ethnic violence; taking up necessary measures to provide source of income to the displaced people taking shelter in relief camps by the government at the earliest; and creating a conducive atmosphere where the people of the hills and the valley can live peacefully and work towards development.
Speaking at the discourse, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani expressed serious concern that there has been no reprieve from the ethnic violence in the periphery areas of the valley and the foothills.
Under such a condition, the convention has been organised to make all understand the need to bring the situation under control and discuss what the present generation has to leave behind for the future generations of Manipur.
She further stressed the need for the present generation to preserve the glorious history inherited from our forefathers with the women society at the forefront.
Kunjarani also exhorted all concerned to contribute their mite in exposing the divide and rule policy of the central government in Manipur and enquired as to why the state government was not invited to the talk held between Kuki armed outfits bound by the suspension of operation agreement and the Union Home minister Amit Shah.
Moderated by social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, the first session of the convention had MU history department retired professor N Joykumar speaking on the topic "Status of women during British period in Manipur", DM University assistant professor Dr Noni Arambam on "Manipuri women in the post annexation period" and IGNTU assistant professor Dr Homen Thangjam on "Role of the Manipuri women when emerging different political aspiration after 1950s in Manipur".
The second session moderated by DM University VC Dr N Rajmuhon included GP Women College assistant professor Dr Indrakumar Konthoujam deliberating on the topic "Women response to the present crisis", Poknapham columnist Lourembam Orenkumar on "What role to be taken in case of extraction of mineral resources in Manipur", retired district and session Judge A Noutuneshwari on "Violation of women and children's rights in the present crisis in Manipur" and MU Economics Department professor Dr Chinglen Maisnam on "Women and political economic space in the post crisis period of Manipur".
Poirei Leimarol president Longjam Memchoubi was also present as one of the presidium members during the convention.
